Annual Student Art Show 2012

The Vacaville Art League and Gallery Annual Student Art Show was established sometime
in the 1980's to give the public secondary schools, (Grades 7-12) art students an established
venue to exhibit their art work.

The Annual Student Art Show is currently a juried exhibit. Ribbons being awarded to Best
of Show (which also receives a medal), First, Second, and Third place along with Honorable
Mention, Gallery (a special award given to student work that is NOT one of the top four places
but is worthy of recognition) and "The People's Choice". This ribbon will be awarded at the end
of the show as the result of voting by all people attending the exhibit. All student artists will
receive a certificate of participation.

The exhibit is open to the public from March 25th – May5th , 2012. Middle School Students (Grades 7-8) and
High School Students (9-12) art work isjudged separately and awarded ribbons. The categories are Painting
(Oil, Acrylic, Water-color,and Mixed Media) Drawing (Graphite, Charcoal, Ink, Markers, Prisma Color, Oil
Pastels,Pastels, and Mixed Media) Sculpture (Ceramic, Glazed and Unglazed, Paper Mache, Paper, and
"Found" Media) Computer/Photography. Judges are members of the Art League.

Since 1997 the participation of art work by public, private schools and organizations has been increasing.
Number of pieces has been running over 400 per year. We had 525 pieces in last years show.
The reputation of the student art show is now fairly wide spread in the area, The neighboring
communities of Winters, Dixon, Travis, Fairfield, Vallejo, Benicia and the Vacaville public and
private schools, plus 4-H club, Scout Troops and individuals have all participated.
On Sunday, March 25th, a reception is held at the gallery for the students, their friends,
families and the teachers. The reception is from 1 to 4 pm and several hundred people attend.
Press coverage by local newspapers and TV are invited and usually attend.
The establishment of this Annual Student Art Show is the Art League and Gallery's way of
advocating the local arts and giving recognition to the artists of today and tomorrow. Secondary
Schools are all teenagers and it is important to the communities involved to see that the young
artists are carrying on the centuries of creativity and appreciation for beauty and commenting
artistically on the current progress of mankind.
